David Foster And Friends Concert Last Night

Last night Michael and I went to the David Foster and Friends Concert. So many well-known performers sang. Even that little opera singer Jackie Evancho, and though she has the voice of an angel, is does sound slightly “younger” and “higher” pitched in person. But there’s no doubt about it that she has talent and will go very far. — Natalie Cole blew me away. She sang a song with Ruben Stoddard and his voice is magnificent!! one of the most beautiful I’ve ever heard live. The highlight of the evening, for me, and one that REALLY BLEW ME AWAY because I didn’t know much about him was: NE-YO. OMG. What a talent! This is someone who is here to stay. He is a REAL talent. So smooth on his feet and he can sing. A real song and dance man in the tradition of Sammy Davis Jr. But really, he is a mixture of artists. You can’t really pin it down… He is his own MAN. Which makes him a Unique artist unto himself. NE-YO. I was blown away!

GETTING OUT AND ABOUT AGAIN!

Finally getting out and about again visiting old friends and making new ones. Sometimes it seems it’s easier to just sit around. Got offered some new, nice opportunities that I’m working on. They should be fun. I’ve posted some new photos.

Come into my site by clicking ENTER SITE. It will lead you by a video of Tanya (of Origen) singing the song Hi Moon that Origen (which Tanya is a member of) singing the original Ukrainian Folk Song. I wrote English lyrics to the song and renamed it “ON A WINTER’S NIGHT” Alexsey then turned it into an Electro/Pop song on our Jackie Carlyle & Origen CD. Some Known And Lesser Known Artists I’ve Known And Who I Love!

Through the years I’ve run into Independent artists I’ve discovered and whether it be their vocal talents, writing ability, musicianship, their showmanship or great spirit, I’d love to name some of them. I’d also like to keep adding to the list as I continue to remember them. Many of them are not famous, some are. Some are from foreign Countries. But all are beloved by me. You can google them. I’ll get in touch with them and get their links.I know they have websites but myspace is easy so I’ll go there first. So for now… Oh, I forgot to say that a great many of these talented artists I have also either collaborated with or,written for or whatever. Many of them have been to my home from all parts of the World. They are in no particular order.

3.Vicki Tetreault – French/Canadian singer with a lot of energy. I think this artist has a tremendous amount of spirit. I have known her for a long time and she continues to press on. She has a lot of heart.

MY HORSE – DIEGO RIVERA

If you go to my photo section you can see my favorite horse “DIEGO RIVERA.” He’s a Palomino/Paint. – I’ll say this, once you get a Paint, you get addicted to them. They are so beautiful. Their colors are amazing. You find all kinds of beautiful patterns (called “mapping”) on them, and it’s hard to take your eyes off them. – Diego is a real character as you can see by the photos. He really needed a friend, and so did I. We found one in each other. He follows me around like a puppy. He grabs my blouses, tries to kiss me, licks my hands, (mind you, all this can be dangerous because of the size of him, but he is very careful and gentle about the whole thing, lol) and he does the goofiest things, like pull my hats off, take towels away from me, carrots out of my pockets, his stunts are endless.

He’s very trustworthy and takes care of me. I have had a love affair with horses ever since I was a child. I had my first horse when I was 12 years old. His name was Danny Boy and I used to ride him bareback and jump really high jumps on him, swim in this lake by Sepulveda dam in California, and never have a moments fear. He was my favorite horse. I never once got injured on that wonderful guy. He was so sweet and gentle and had so much heart. We were best friends. After Danny I didn’t have a horse for years and when I got older I bought several horses, and one seemed crazier than the next. Since I never knew fear from a horse I wasn’t expecting any trouble, but I got it time after time. But my love of these magnificent animals overrode my better judgment I guess. Let’s put it this way, I never got injured on any of these horses, but a few of them took me on some wild rides.

Diego is the first horse I’ve had since Danny Boy that I have completely fallen in love with heart and soul.

I’ve often reminded myself that when I was growing up I never had any urges to be famous or rich. Those things didn’t go through my mind. I wanted to be a teacher or a veterinarian. I went to school, came home and played the piano (though guitar is my main instrument, I didn’t start playing it until years later when I began traveling), and then went to ride my horse. I had no illusions of being anything extraordinary.

Somewhere along the line people outside of me began making such a big deal about “Making It” about becoming “Famous.” I really didn’t have that natural drive. That drive can eat you alive. That’s why I came up with that saying, “IT’S THE FLAME, NOT THE FAME!” Life is like “Horse sense” I never believed in whipping a horse and I also feel that you can’t whip your own nature. You are what you are.

I really love writing good lyrics and I like writing good songs. Sometimes that process comes together. Today’s music business has completely changed anyway. A person should do what they love to do, no matter what.
Life is like finding the right horse. Sometimes in the beginning you’re lucky and you get what comes natural to you. Then you have to go through a lot of bad shit, only to come full circle to find the right fit again realizing what’s right for you. You have to relax and be grateful too.

Well, I’m just happy to be able to blab away here. I really just wanted to talk about how grateful I am for this sweet being Diego who has come into my life.

HOPING TO ADD A FEW NEW SECTIONS SOON!

I’ve traveled the world and met a lot of great, interesting people, and I’ve never really had a place to share those stories with a lot of my friends. I’m going to set up a page to be able to do so. I wish I had more photos, but if there’s a way to take a bad photo, I will find it, lol. I guess we all have our talents, and photography is NOT one of mine. I’ll stick to writing songs. I’d also like to put a page up containing many songs that I’ve written, some with the the wonderful artists I have collaborated with and a page containing the many lyrics I’ve put down over the years. So, stay tuned.

I also want to thank Susan Frances for reviewing my works all these years. I love to ask her for her opinions because she is a reviewer for many music magazines and a very talented writer of articles and books herself and knows the process of creative writing well. That’s why I trust her especially, and put myself in her capable hands. So thanks always Susan.

DINNER WITH JULIO IGLESIAS

What a night! Michael and I had dinner with Julio Iglesias after his concert at the Hilton the other night. What a voice. Still the smoothest in the world. And what a classy, gracious man. One of the nicest, least pretentious you will meet.
Also there was Brian Avnet and his gorgeous wife Marcia. Brian has managed everyone from Cindy Lauper to Josh Grobin and Tony Braxton and worked with David Foster. The list is too long to name. And Marcia (Sweet, sweet people. ) is an accomplished songwriter in her own right. Bobby Katz, the columnist was there too.
I guess that’s the latest news to blog about. It was a night to remember.
